Good news!!

All

As you know, we will loose our facility in December..

We have secured a facility in Burlington from January 2017 to June 2017 at a rate that we can afford with a secure storage area for the tables.  That is the good news.  The rent at the facility is expensive but we got a partial fee waiver from the City of Burlington for that period of time only. After that, we will need to make a decision as to how we want to run the club, meaning stay small and close from June 2017 to August 2018 or built up a business plan to be submitted to the City to expand and get a full fledged gym, while being financially viable.  The plan would need to include children, old age homes, low cost official memberships and probably lessons.

For the moment, the contract is not yet signed, so hold on.

We will definitely discuss the future of the club in weeks to come as this would be a major change in the management and operations of the club.

See you Friday

Opening session ; September 2nd 2016

All

Our season will officially open on September 2nd 2016 at our usual time 7 PM.  The entrance fees remain the same at $5 per session, so is the player limit at 14.

At our last session in June, I announced that the church will renovate our gym starting in January 2017 until August 2018.  This has not changed.  My mission since this announcement was to find a new location for our club.  All pursuit of private or religious locations, which were over 50 revalued futile.  A glimmer of hope on some of these but storage revealed being the break point.

I then pursued the City of Burlington and with tenacity, found a location and adequate storage space, although well above our current rental cost.  After obtaining confirmation from city official that we could relocate, I applied for a grant to allow the club to afford this new location.

While the grant is still under review, the news of an available location for table tennis made its rounds within city officials and a small tennis program ran by the city.  The intent of this city program was to use our table for their purpose as the storage room was not big enough for all the tables.  I replied with conditions, including replacement cost, insurance and supervision by one of our member.  Obviously this was refused.  I suspect that the end of this process will result in our loosing this location to the benefit of a city run program.  We simply cannot afford letting inexperienced players handle and keep the tables in good conditions.  I will keep you up to date on any news.

In any event, we are good to operate until December.  At that time we will either move to a city location or store the table until a new location is found, which is for the moment highly unlikely.

We will play until we can no longer, that is the best we can do.

See you on September 2nd..

Friday May 6th 2016

All

We had low attendance on Friday from the regular members for now several weeks in a row.  However some walk ins have insured that we can pay the rent.

It is important for the regular members to remember that for many many years now we have limited the numbers of walk ins to insure that the regular members can play.  Now if membership attendance is low, we will have to stop this practice.   In addition, belonging to the club is a somewhat of a commitment in the same manner as for the staff that maintain, stores, clean, manages and often disburse funds from their own pockets to ensure that the quality of the equipment and environment is the best what we can achieve.  Having said that I hope that the club will continue its operations but with the current membership pattern, this is now at risk.

Several ladder matches were played and the ladder page will be updated tonight.  Matches were exciting to watch and showed that many players have significantly improved this year.   Also remember that the club closing party is on June 3rd.

See you this friday, I hope

April 15th 2016

All

Several regular did not show up this week however we still almost had a full club.  No changes in the ladder other than the drop in rank due to absence.   Yvan lost to Damir, Brandt lost to Yvan.  These are the only matches that were reported.

Last week I announced that the prizes were purchased and are ready to be given to the winners, which again are:

Best of first division, best of second division and best women.  Little time is left in the season so get to it!!.

I will update the ladder page later this week.

See you next week

March 19th 2016.

Hi all

Very good night as we were at full capacity.  We have a new player with good skills in Ji He.  From his own accord, a bit rusty but he will pick up quickly.

No changes in the ladder other than the movement downward of some players due to being absent. Many matches were played and as the end of the season is approaching, i need to remind you that there will be prizes for Div I and II !!

The insurance for 2016-2017 has been paid up so we are good on that side.  The equipment is holding up so all profits are going to the purchase of a new blue table next year.  The barriers are very useful so we will keep them.

Remember that we are closed this friday for Good Friday.

Happy Easter!!

March 4th 2016

Hi All

We had a good attendance with Dennis and Tim showing up.  Carlos remains missing due to injury and will need to remove him from the ladder on a temp basis until he can defend his title.

Thomas and Damir played twice and with a even outcome, the ladder did not change.  However now Damir is in 1st place.  If you play matches, let me know so we can update the ladder.

The new barriers do their job wonderfully so we will be keeping them on an ongoing basis.

Will see you this friday
